New subdivision planned for Vernon’s Beachcomber Bay area

Preliminary approval has been granted for a new subdivision consisting of nearly three dozen homes near Okanagan Lake in Vernon.

At its regular meeting Monday, Nov. 6, Vernon city council was presented with a rezoning and development variance permit application for a property located off Tavistock Road in the Beachcomber Bay area.

The property was designated as Large Lot Residential and Residential Low Density, and the proposal requested the property be rezoned to Medium Lot Residential.

The redesignation would allow the minimum lot width to be reduced from 18 to 14 metres so a 36-lot subdivision could be developed at the site.

The proposal noted 35 of those lots would be developed as single-detached homes and the final lot would be closed off as a private park.

A development variance permit was also requested, as the property is on a slope greater than 30 per cent and requires approval before going ahead with constructing buildings and structures at the site.

Council voted unanimously in favour of supporting the requests in principle.

A public hearing on the proposed subdivision will be held at city hall on December 11.
