Weapons complaint leads to hold and secure at Kalamalka Secondary

Nov 7, 2023 | 2:33 PM

Students at Kalamalka Secondary School in Coldstream had to stay in their classrooms most of Tuesday due to a weapons complaint.

Vernon North Okanagan RCMP responded to a call of a possible weapon in the area of the high school in Coldstream at around 10:30 a.m. Nov. 7.

School administration ordered a hold and secure to ensure the safety of staff and students as police investigated the weapons complaint. Officers were also dispatched to the school to support the safety measure while the investigation was underway.

Following an assessment of the situation, it was determined the safety measure was no longer needed and, after consulting with police, school administration lifted the hold and secure at around 2 p.m. Tuesday.

“The safety of our students and our schools is our top priority,” Constable Chris Terleski, media relations officer, said.

“In response to any potential threats, all necessary steps to ensure their safety will be taken. We want to thank School District 22 staff, students, and families, for their patience and co-operation.”

The RCMP’s investigation into the possible weapons complaint was ongoing, and no other information relating to the case has been released.
