Phase two of a new bike skills park is expected to proceed next year in Vernon.

City staff have rolled out the latest plans for Becker Bike Park in Becker Park, just west of the Vernon Curling Club off 39th Avenue.

The scope of the $962,000 project includes the design and construction of a modern mountain bike skills park.

“The park will include dirt jump area, paved pump-track, skills area, trails, signage, and parking lot works at the Becker Bike Park. The upgraded park facilities will provide a safe, progressive, and inclusive bicycling environment for all ages and abilities,” a staff report to council stated.

The North Okanagan Cycling Society helped plan the facility, which proponents say will likely attract visitors to the region.

The city has received $500,000 from B.C.’s Ministry of Tourism, Arts, Culture and Sport for the bike park.

A start date has not been announced.
