Charges have been laid in the death of a child in the North Okanagan over three years ago.

On April 4, 2020, Vernon North Okanagan RCMP were called to the Lumby area to assist B.C. Emergency Health Services who were treating a child.

The child was flown by air ambulance to Kelowna for treatment, but in the early hours of April 5, was pronounced deceased.

The RCMP Southeast District Major Crime Unit and the B.C. Coroners Service were tasked with investigating the death.

On Oct. 26, 2023 the investigation led to the arrests of 29-year-old Keisha Marie McCrea and 23-year-old Brian William Chciuk.

Each were charged with one count of failure to provide the necessities of life.

The accused are both scheduled to appear in Vernon Provincial Court on January 4, 2024.
