A pair of B.C. United MLAs in the Interior will have their names on the ballot of the next provincial election, but one serving the Okanagan will be retiring.

The party announced that Doug Clovechok of Columbia River-Revelstoke and Tom Shypitka of Kootenay East will be seeking relection in 2024.

“It has truly been an honour to serve the people of Columbia River – Revelstoke and I’m looking forward to continue the important work that we have started, and what is yet to come,” Clovechok said.

“Under the leadership of Kevin Falcon, with the BC United team, we will fix British Columbia and create better outcomes for both the Kootenay Region and our beautiful province,” said Shypitka, who will be running in the new Kootenay-Rockies riding.

Both MLAs have held their positions since 2017.

“I am delighted to have Doug and Tom running once again under the BC United banner,” B.C. United Leader Kevin Falcon said.

“Their commitment to their constituents and their extensive track record of service is remarkable. I am proud to have them as part of our experienced team, working tirelessly to bring about positive change for the people of British Columbia on the issues that matter most such as the cost of living, public safety, health care, infrastructure, and mental health and addictions supports.”

The party also announced that Ben Stewart, MLA for Kelowna West, will not be seeking another term.

Stewart was first elected in 2009 in the riding of Westside-Kelowna. He currently serves as the Opposition party’s Shadow Minister for Tourism and Trade.

“Ben’s years of service to our province have been exceptional,” Falcon said.

“He has made a significant impact on B.C., and we thank him for his dedication and unwavering commitment to his constituents and the people of British Columbia over the past 14 years.”

Stewart, who was a former cabinet minister under Liberal premiers Gordon Campbell and Christy Clark, did not provide a statement in the release for B.C. United.
