Nothing suspicious uncovered in East Hill house fires

Investigations into two recent house fires in Vernon’s East Hill area have now been closed, with one determined to be accidental in nature.

Vernon Fire Rescue Services, through the City of Vernon, said the fire that broke out in a home on 25th Avenue has been deemed accidental, while the cause of the fire at the home on 39A Ave was undetermined.

That blaze broke out in an upstairs room of the home on 25th Ave. and was reported by one of the children. at approximately 1 a.m. Thursday, Oct. 12.

The three occupants and a dog in the home were displaced by the fire.

VFRS did not provide an exact cause of the fire, and no information was provided on the extent of the damage caused by the fire, smoke or suppression efforts.

Meantime, the cause of the fire that broke out at the rear of the home on 39A Avenue Sept. 16 was still undetermined, according to VFRS.

The City of Vernon stated neither of the cases was not handed over to the RCMP for further investigation.

That blaze caused significant damage to the home, resulting in the the resident and their dog being displaced.

A GoFundMe was launched for the resident, who lost their possessions in the fire.
