MLA for Shuswap not seeking re-election

Greg Kyllo’s name will not be on the ballot for the 2024 provincial election.

The B.C. United (former B.C. Liberal) representative for the Shuswap riding announced he will not seek re-election for the seat he has held since 2013.

“It has been an incredible privilege to serve the people of Shuswap and to work alongside the BC United team,” Kyllo said in a release Tuesday, Oct. 17.

“While this hasn’t been an easy decision, I look forward to spending more time with family – especially my grandchildren! Much appreciation is owed to the dedicated staff at the Salmon Arm constituency office, the executive of the Shuswap Riding Association, and the countless volunteers who have passionately supported me in the last three elections. Although I won’t be seeking re-election, I remain committed to working for the people of Shuswap and holding David Eby’s NDP to account until the next election.”

The three-term MLA served as the shadow minister for Labour and Skills Training, the deputy caucus whip, and parliamentary secretary for the B.C. Jobs Plan to the Minister of Jobs, Tourism, and Skills Training during his time in office.

The 55-year-old former councillor and business owner in Sicamous also sat on a number of committees during his tenure including Treasury Board, the Cabinet Committee on Core Review, the Cabinet Committee on Strong Economy, the Select Standing Committee on Public Accounts, and the Premier’s Priority Planning Committee.

“I want to extend my heartfelt thanks for his exceptional service to the Shuswap community, and to all of British Columbia,” B.C. United Leader, Kevin Falcon, said in the release.

“His legacy as a passionate advocate for Shuswap will be deeply missed.”

The Shuswap riding will be part of a new Salmon Arm-Shuswap electoral district for the 2024 election.
