16th private liquor store in Greater Vernon opens

There is a new player in the booze business near the Vernon Coldstream boundary.

Local businessman Tom Houston and a partner are behind the 2300 square foot Go Liquor Studio in unit 13 of the Alpine Centre.

“We had been looking for a place to open a new liquor store. Our search ended up bringing us to Vernon/Coldstream and it seemed like a perfect fit,” Houston told Vernon Matters.

The store isn’t part of a chain which Houston feels will give them more flexibility.

“We like the combination of great customers, great staff and even better beer, wine and spirits. We will be adjusting product lines and inventory levels as our wonderful local clients give us feedback and suggest preferred choices,” Houston added.

With Go Liquor Studio there are now 16 private — and one government liquor — outlets in Greater Vernon. The store is between the Toro’s and Alexander’s liquor stores.

“With most businesses today there is a lot of competition” Houston said. “Vernon has many choices for consumers as do most B.C. cities. We feel very fortunate to have ended up opening into a well-established area that has not seen a new store in decades. The local population has responded really well with welcoming us to their neighborhood.”

Houston said the use of the word studio in the name was deliberate and will help support local artists.

“There are lots of liquor stores, but not liquor studios. Our approach is we want to be the go-to-place for great wine and unique beverages. Additionally, we have incorporated the movie studio theme with a recent Barbie promotion. To incorporate an artist studio theme we will be showcasing an Okanagan artist’s work on our walls within the next month,” Houston added. “We look forward to the upcoming season and welcome corporate contacts that we can assist with raising their spirits.”
