UPDATE: Silver Star Road detour damaging Rimer Road

Rimer Road has received some attention from the Ministry of Transportation and Infrastructure, (MOTI).

Regional District of North Okanagan Area B director Bob Fleming made inquiries with MOTI after a number of potholes appeared on the road due to construction traffic and diversion of passenger vehicles for construction of the Silver Star Road multi-use pathway.

While the potholes have been addressed, redoing the road base and repaving will have to wait.

The large volume of traffic being detoured onto roads in the BX for construction of the Silver Star Road multi-use path is causing damage to other roads, in particular Rimer Road.

“I have spoken with MOTI (Ministry of Transportation and Infrastructure) about the situation as there are now significant potholes on Rimer,” Area B Director Bob Fleming told Vernon Matters. “There is still a lot of season left for potholes to be filled.”

Residents along the road are also reporting damage on the shoulders of the narrow road from construction vehicles.

MOTI crews were reportedly cold-filling some of the worst potholes this week.

“I will be following up with the road manager to see what can be done to improve things before winter,” Fleming added.
