Poilievre stops in Okanagan

Conservative leader Pierre Poilievre made a stop in Kelowna Wednesday, and blamed the Liberal-NDP coalition for the high cost of rent in the city.

He said Justin Trudeau’s inflationary policies have doubled the cost of housing, and driven up food prices faster than any time in four decades.

Poilievre also visited an orchard in the Penticton area.

“Glad to meet the great folks of the BC Fruit Growers’ Association in the Okanagan Valley today. Let’s axe the tax on the farmers who grow our food to bring home lower prices for everyone,” Poilievre said on his Facebook page.

Poilievre will take part in a rally in Oliver Wednesday night. His party hopes to gain a seat in that riding from the NDP in the next election where Richard Cannings is retiring.

During his stop in Kelowna, Poilievre condemned the attack by Hamas militants on Israel.

“Our hearts break with every lost innocent life, both Palestinian and Israeli,” Poilievre said.

A third Canadian is confirmed dead in the escalating Israel-Gaza war.

Adi Vital-Kaploun, 33, was described as a “beautiful person with a warm soul,” by the Jewish Federation of Ottawa.

Two other Canadians — 22-year-old Ben Mizrachi from Vancouver and 33-year-old Alexandre Look from Montreal — are among the 2,300 people killed so far in a conflict that began after Hamas conducted brazen attacks in Israel on Saturday.
