Oct 4, 2023 | 4:40 PM

The highway connecting B.C.’s Southern Interior to Alberta will be open for Thanksgiving.

Highway 1 through the Kicking Horse Canyon will be fully open for the long weekend from noon on Friday, October 6, to noon on Tuesday, October 10.

Following the weekend the highway will back to partially open status to accomodate the work widening the highway.

During the work though the fall there will be periodic 30 minute stoppages in the daytime and evenings, along with overnight full closures from 10 p.m. to 7 a.m.

Motorists travelling between B.C. and Alberta can use the alternate route of Highways 93S and 95 during the closures.

Travellers are advised to check DriveBC for road conditions and updates on closures prior to getting behind the wheel.
