Vipers and Silverbacks open new BCHL season

The Salmon Arm Silverbacks scored two goals 47 seconds apart in the third period for a comeback 3-2 win over the Vernon Vipers Friday night at the Shaw Centre.

Just over 1,500 fans came out for the game which opened the new BC Hockey League season for both teams.

Reid Varkonyi beat Ethan David for the winning goal six minutes into the final period.

Adam Csabi of Czechia and Julian Facchinelli of Woodbridge, Ont. scored for Vernon.

The Vipers host the Cranbrook Bucks at 6 p.m. Saturday for their home opener at Kal Tire Place with former owner Duncan Wray being honoured.
