Prestige Vernon Lodge makeover progressing

Sep 22, 2023 | 6:00 AM

The Prestige Vernon Lodge and Conference centre is getting shined up.

The iconic Vernon hotel opened in 1972 and was the talk of the town with the atrium, tropical plants and the creek flowing through the facility.

While there have been changes and upgrades several times since the 1970’s, this is the first significant renovation in years.

Here are some of the changes the Prestige ownership have made:

  • The lobby was renovated back in early 2020
  • Guestrooms refreshed in recent years
  • A very significant investment went into the garden atrium in recent years as the ceiling, roof, windows and structure were all needing major repairs. It was a huge undertaking that involved basically replacing the entire roof in pieces over three years; that project is now complete
  • The atrium has had a refresh with a brand new hot tub, new chairs, and décor in the last year
  • The new atrium restaurant, Cabana Bar and Kitchen, opened this summer after receiving a face lift as well as new paint, décor, tables and chairs. It’s also now under new ownership and operations. The food is a Mediterranean theme and they are also offering Sunday brunch.

“It’s been wonderful to bring it back to life again — it was closed for three years during Covid — and it’s lovely to see so many locals and guests coming in to enjoy it once again,” Amy Nunn, Prestige Hotels vice president of sales and marketing told Vernon Matters.

The most recent renovations have been to the ballrooms, the North Okanagan’s largest meeting and event space at 7,500 sq feet.

  • New carpets
  • New paint
  • New lighting
  • New dance floor
  • New windows
  • New ceiling
  • New chairs, likely to arrive in January
  • The foyer is also completely renovated
  • The smaller meeting space next to the ballroom has been updated
  • New “air walls” for the ballroom and these are being custom-built and will arrive this winter.

The first major event to be held in the renewed Grand Ballroom will be the North Okanagan Hospice Society’s James Bond-themed fundraiser “From Hospice with Love.” The hotel plans to professionally photograph the set-up for the Saturday event to for promotional purposes.

Other upgrades still to come:

  • Renovations to all of the hallways in the hotel
  • New carpets
  • Paint and/or wallpaper
  • Lighting
  • Artwork featuring custom/exclusive B&W photography from around Vernon. t
  • Updating the equipment in the fitness room this fall with reopening around the end of October.

“So all in all, we really love this hotel and have seen it’s full potential since we purchased it in 2017. We recognize the significance of the property and the legacy that it holds in Vernon, and we know how special it is to the residents and previous guests. We really are excited about all of these new changes and we can’t wait to show it off,” Nunn stated.

Financial details of the renovations were not released, but given the scope of work, it would be a significant investment.
