Law enforcement officials participating in a charity bike ride will arrive in Vernon Saturday, Sept. 16.

The 2023 Cops for Kids Ride is seeing 28 cyclists from across southeastern B.C. participating in a 10-day journey throughout the region.

The cyclists will arrive at the Vernon RCMP detachment at 3 p.m. Saturday, which will be day nine of their ride.

The Cops for Kids riders started in Kelowna on September 8, travelled down through the South Okanagan, over to the Kootenays as far as Cranbrook, and are travelling back towards the Shuswap before heading to the finish line in Kelowna.

The 28 riders are raising money for the charity that supports local children in medical, physical or traumatic crisis

There is one Vernon North Okanagan officer participating in the ride, Nick Reimann, who had raised $3,230 as of noon Wednesday, Sept. 13.

“This ride is the greatest way for me to give back to my community,” Reimann said.

“I started for the cycling, and I stay for the impact that we make. The families who rely on Cops for Kids really have nowhere else to turn, and so my efforts can help them when times are tough. It’s the least I can do.”

Each rider is raising a minimum of $2,500 for Cops for Kids..

As of noon Wednesday, all but three officers had reached the minimum fundraising amount. A total of $195,920.03 had been raised among all the riders in the Southern Interior as of time of publication.

Donations in the name of the riders can be made until December 31, 2023, through the Cops for Kids website.
