Evacuation orders downgraded for McDougall Creek fire

UPDATE: 1 p.m.

The number of properties on evacuation order due to the McDougall Creek fire is down to 380 after 25 homes along Westside Road were downgraded to alerts Monday night.

And today, emergency officials rescinded the evacuation alerts for La Casa Resort, and the area north of that.

That brings the number of properties still on evacuation alert in the Central Okanagan to 4,858.

Evacuation orders for about 25 properties were downgraded to alerts along Westside Road Monday night while some alerts in West Kelowna were rescinded for the McDougall Creek wildfire.

Central Okanagan Emergency Operations lifted the alerts in all remaining areas of Westbank First Nation and in some areas in the City of West Kelowna including some sections of the following neighbourhoods: Lower Glenrosa, Smith Creek and Westbank Centre, Shannon Lake and West Kelowna Business Park.

There were 125 firefighters, 38 operational field staff, BC Hydro technicians and RCMP working throughout the day along with nine helicopters.

The fire is still estimated at just under 14,000 hectares.
