Car crash sparks fire, forces highway closure near Salmon Arm

Sep 7, 2023 | 5:30 PM

A bush was ignited and the highway was closed temporarily after a car crashed near Salmon Arm Thursday morning.

RCMP say emergency crews were called to the scene of a motor vehicle crash on Highway 1 near Tappen Beach Road at 5:38 a.m. on Sept. 7

The vehicle was said to have left the highway, clipped a hydro pole, gone down an embankment and started to burn.

Fire crews quickly extinguished the fire, which ignited a bush in the area.

The driver and sole occupant of the vehicle, a 19-year-old Salmon Arm man, was taken to hospital for treatment of multiple fractures and other non-life threatening injuries.

The highway was closed temporarily as the crash scene was cleared and the fire extinguished.

Police continue to investigate the crash and the Salmon Arm RCMP said said alcohol may have been a factor.
