Caetani Centre to open doors as part of arts and culture celebrations

The Caetani Centre will be opening its doors to the public for free self-guided tours and offering a literacy event this fall.

The Caetani Centre will offer the free visits as part of a movement to bring arts and culture into the limelight and to mark Culture Days and the inaugural Sundog Festival of the Arts and Culture.

The Vernon-based heritage museum and cultural centre, once home to the artist Sveva Caeteni, will offer the free self-guided tours on September 28 and 29, as well as on October 5 and 6, from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. During those tours people can learn about the Caetani family story and see over 1,000 artifacts and artworks.

There will also be a special literary event, titled The Good Companions, as part of Vernon’s first Sundog Festival of Arts and Culture and the nationwide Culture Days. That event will be held on October 5 from 7 to 9 p.m. in the Sveva Caeteni Gallery.

“It’s been a challenging last few years – and last few weeks in the Okanagan – for many of us. At the Caetani Centre, we really believe that participating in arts and culture events helps us to connect as individuals and, more importantly, to come together as a community,” Executive Director Laisha Rosnau said.

“Our namesake and benefactor, Sveva Caetani, used involvement in arts and culture as a way to navigate some of the challenges in her own life and to connect with our local community. We like to believe we’re following Sveva’s lead.”

Culture Days and the inaugural Sundog Festival of Arts and Culture both begin in late September. The Sundog Festival will open at Polson Park with Howl of the Night on the Sept. 22 and then with a kick-off party on Sept. 23. Culture Days runs from Sept. 22 to Oct 15.
