Vernon Search and Rescue is getting some new wheels.

The volunteer group said a new Ford-450 arrived at Watkin Motors recently, and will become their new initial response truck (IRT).

“This truck is replacing the current unit that has served us well since 2005,” a posting on Facebook said.

VSAR is working with Intercontinental Truck Body in Surrey to supply the rescue body of the truck which is being custom built.

No word on how much the new truck cost, but some of the funding comes from the community.

“Thanks to fundraising, grants and donations from our awesome community, the new IRT will serve the North Okanagan for many years to come,” VSAR stated.

The search team is asking other SAR groups in B.C. if they may be interested in their current truck.
