Tourists can return to Okanagan, other than West Kelowna

Aug 22, 2023 | 5:30 PM

Tourists will be allowed back into Vernon and other parts of the Okanagan as of Wednesday (Aug. 23).

The province is lifting the travel restrictions for the purpose of staying in temporary accommodations, other than in West Kelowna.

Emergency management minister Bowinn Ma told a news conference in Kelowna the ban that was implemented Saturday, has had the desired effect of opening up hotel rooms for those that need them such as firefighters and evacuees.

The order will be lifted for Kelowna, Kamloops, Oliver, Osoyoos, Penticton and Vernon.

“Non-essential travel to West Kelowna continues to be prohibited for the purpose of staying in temporary accommodation, including hotels, motels, inns, bed and breakfasts, hostels, RV parks, and campgrounds, to ensure accommodation is available for those who may need it,” Ma said.

The announcement was made during a tour of fire zones by Premier David Eby.
