Road closed for creek project near FreshCo

Drivers are having to deal with a detour in downtown Vernon that is expected to last a few weeks.

A company is conducting a project on behalf of the city to rehabilitate about 18 metres of deteriorating storm culvert on BX Creek.

The creek is being bypassed during the spray-on application process. This time of year was chosen as it’s considered the “least risk timing window for fish and wildlife.”

A small portion of 30th Avenue, just west of FreshCo, is closed to vehicles, but the roundabout in that area, remains open.

Eastbound traffic is being detoured along 31st Avenue at the roundabout and westbound traffic is detoured along 34th Street (see map below).

Access to area businesses remains open.

“The work is expected to be complete by the end of day on Tuesday, August 22,” a city news release stated.
