Hundreds of people in Osoyoos are able to return to their homes following a frightening weekend.

The Eagle Bluff wildfire that ignited in Washington State Saturday, July 29, then crossed the border and climbed the hills overlooking the South Okanagan town Sunday, was pushed back by winds Monday, July 31.

The Regional District of Okanagan-Similkameen rescinded the Evacuation Order associated with the fire for 540 properties, bringing the number of properties under the Order to 192 Monday.

Those properties no longer under the Order are still under an Evacuation Alert and the residents are advised to be prepared to leave again on short notice should the fire activity increase and conditions worsen.

As of Monday afternoon, over 2,600 hundred homes in Osoyoos were under Evacuation Alert.

The B.C. Wildfire Service (BCWS) stated the Eagle Bluff wildfire was 1,450 hectares in size as of 2:44 p.m. Monday.

The BCWS stated there were 61 members on the ground and six helicopters responding to the blaze, which was still classified as Out of Control.

Also on the scene was an Incident Management Team, 11 pieces of heavy equipment, and structure protection.

The Columbia Shuswap Regional District stated in a social media post that structure protection equipment currently set up in the area of the Lower East Adams Lake wildfire were being dismantled so they could be deployed to the Eagle Bluff fire.

The cause of the fire remains unknown.
