Vernon to host 11U baseball provincials

Baseball players from throughout B.C. will be in Vernon this August long weekend for the provincial championships.

Ten 11U AAA teams from throughout B.C. have earned spots at the provincials, which will be held August 3-6 at Lakeview Park in Vernon.

Vernon Minor Baseball is hosting the tournament that will see ball players aged 10 and 11 meet on the diamond.

The Vernon Canadians will be taking part in the tournament, and teams from Duncan, Campbell River, Richmond, Ridge Meadows, North Langley, White Rock, Prince George, Penticton and Salmon Arm are also participating.

“Vernon Minor Baseball is really excited to host,” Jason Gilbert, Treasurer for Vernon Minor Baseball told Vernon Matters.

“These kids come from a long was away and are truly excited to come and play at our great facilities.”

The tournament will begin with the Opening Ceremonies at 4:30 p.m. Thursday, August 3, followed by a skills competition from 5:30 to 7 p.m. Each team will have players involved in the skills competition, which will close out with a home run derby.

Round robin play will take place Friday and Saturday from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m.

The Vernon Canadians will play at 1:30 p.m. and 6:30 p.m. both Friday and Saturday.

The top four teams will meet on the diamond Sunday, with the semi final games going at 10 a.m. and the gold and bronze medal games starting at 2 p.m.

Vernon Minor Baseball added volunteers and city staff have been preparing the park on 18th Street for the tournament.
