Visiting firefighters jump into action Saturday night
A small grass and brush fire near Kal Tire Place on Saturday evening was quickly extinguised thanks to firefighters attending the Okanagan Military Tattoo.
Members of the Kelowna Pipe Band and Kamloops Pipe Bands were attending a performer and volunteer reception when the fire broke out between the arena and Vernon Square Mall.
“We were having a social for everyone, and all of a sudden there were sparks coming up,” show producer Norm Crerar said. “There were eight firefighters, four from Kamloops and four from the Kelowna band. They just grabbed a hose and were over the hill before anyone could even call 9-1-1. They had the water on the fire, it was absolutely spectacular.
Vernon Fire Rescue Services attended and thanked their colleagues for the assist.
