The City of Vernon is taking steps to keep people cool during the heat wave.

With temperatures forecasted in the mid- to upper-30s today and tomorrow (July 20, 21), the city has opened the public walkway at Kal Tire Place.

The city also noted people can beat the heat by visiting the Vernon Aquatic and Recreation Centre, the Village Green Shopping Centre, and the Vernon branch of the Okanagan Regional Library.

Greater Vernon Recreation is also hosting pop-up spray parks this summer, and this week it is being hosted at Heritage Park from 9:30 to 11:30 a.m.

The City reminds people to stay hydrated, noting water fountains and bottle filling stations as well as public washrooms with potable water are located throughout Vernon.

The Heat Warning for the Okanagan Valley is expected to end this weekend as daytime temperatures are expected to drop to highs in the low-30s.

The District of Coldstream also opened its Community Hall as a cooling centre today.
