Flags lowered in Coldstream

Condolences flood in for fallen firefighter

Jul 14, 2023 | 3:55 PM

Sympathy messages for 19-year old Devyn Gale continue to pour in, with local municipalities now taking action to recognize the B.C. Wildfire Service member.

Gale died yesterday near Revelstoke after being struck by a falling tree, as a crew worked a small remote fire near the city.

Prime Minister Justin Trudeau and Premier David Eby issued statements of condolence on Friday, along with dozens of organizations.

The District of Coldstream has lowered the flags at the Coldstream and Lavington Fire Halls, to honour the BC Wildfire Service Firefighter.

“We offer our deepest sympathies to the family, friends, and fellow firefighters of this young firefighter who tragically lost her life in the line of duty while working to protect our Province as wildfires continue to burn in multiple locations throughout BC”, Mayor Ruth Hoyte, speaking on behalf of the District of Coldstream Council, said.
