Vernon hockey player Deagan McMillan wasn’t taken in the recent NHL draft, but that doesn’t mean interest has waned in the talented 6’2″, 200 pound centre.

McMillan, a forward with the Western Hockey League’s Tri City Americans, appeared on Central Scouting’s list for the first time this year, at 108th among North American skaters.

McMillan, 18, totaled 47 points (17-30-47) along with 54 penalty minutes through 65 games this season, improving from just seven points (3-4-7) over 45 games last year.

The Toronto Maples Leafs liked what they saw this season and invited McMillan to a development camp on now in Toronto.

Forty-two players were invited including 23 free agents, which included McMillan.

Maple Leafs assistant general manager, player development, Hayley Wickenheiser and her staff, will oversee this year’s camp.

The top prospects from the camp could be invited to the Leafs main camp in September. McMillan is expected to have other NHL training camp offers for the fall.
