Vernon Firefighters were sent out to a grass fire on the road overlooking Kalamlaka Lake on Thursday afternoon.

Vernon Fire Rescue Service (VFRS) crews were sent to the grass fire in the 400 block of High Ridge Rd. around 1 p.m.

The VFRS forestry truck and engine attended the scene, where heavy smoke was coming from a fire that had grown to approximately 500 by 200 feet before crews got it in under control.

B.C. Wildfire Service was called in and assisted with extinguishing the fire.

A cause was not disclosed.

The grass fire occurred shortly after the fire at Polson Park Motel. It’s not suspected the two fires are related.
