Daily events set for inaugural Seniors’ Week in Vernon

A special week-long event will celebrate seniors in the Vernon area.

Seniors’ Week will take place from June 5 to 9 to honour the contributions of seniors and provide an opportunity to acknowledge and celebrate the integral part seniors play in communities across British Columbia.

Up until now, Seniors’ Week has not been celebrated in Vernon, but this year, several care homes and organizations have joined forces to offer a number of activities.

From June 5-8, a different event each day will be held throughout the city, sponsored by the Halina Centre, NexusBC Community Resource Centre, The Hamlets at Vernon, Orchard Valley Retirement Residences and Parkwood Retirement Resort.

On June 9, the final day of Seniors’ Week, the partners will be holding a full day event, at the Vernon Recreation Centre, with various activities for the senior community to participate in.

A trade show will be held during the day on June 9, from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m., with entertainment throughout the day, as well as door prize draws. There will be beverages and snacks offered in the morning.

During the afternoon, a catered lunch will be offered to our senior attendees and the day will end with an entertaining evening of Bingo.
