COVID-19 outbreak at Vernon facility

Interior Health has identified a COVID-19 outbreak at the Polson Residential Care facility in Vernon.

The first case was recorded Tuesday, May 16, and the outbreak affects the Sunshine Unit.

As of 4 p.m. Friday, May 19, a total of 13 cases had been confirmed in the outbreak at the long-term care facility by Vernon Jubilee Hospital, all of whom are residents.

The outbreak had not resulted in any hospitalizations or deaths as of time of publication.

As per Interior Health protocols, signs have been posted on the affected facility, affected residents are being isolated, visitation restrictions have been put in place, staff are wearing gloves and masks and doing enhanced cleaning and sterilization, residents are being advised to stay in their rooms as much as possible, and non-emergency medical appointments are being rescheduled.
