A date for sentencing before Justice Allan Betton will be set later, with lawyers in the courtroom saying it will be during the week of June 5. Wiebe will be required to attend the one-day sentencing in person.

With the guilty plea, Wiebe admitted to causing the death of Heather Barker, 37, who was found unresponsive in her home on Cordon Place in Vernon in March 2018. Barker was taken to Vernon Jubilee Hospital with life-threatening injuries and was later taken-off life support.

No other details about the crime were provided in court Monday.

Wiebe, a pharmacist at the time, was apprehended and charged in January 2021, nearly three years after Barker’s death.

Weibe had his pharmacist license suspended by the College of Pharmacists of B.C. in 2019 following an addiction investigation.
