Highway crash

Impairment may have been factor in fatal crash

Apr 27, 2023 | 1:25 PM

An Okanagan resident was driving a vehicle involved in a fatal crash on the Trans Canada Highway in South-Eastern B.C.

RCMP say a Chrysler PT Cruiser travelling westbound near Field crossed the centre line and went down a steep embankment around 3:30 p.m. Wednesday, April 26.

“The passenger, a woman in her 30’s of no fixed address, was ejected from the vehicle and pronounced deceased at the scene. She is not believed to have been wearing a seatbelt at the time of the crash,” Cpl. Mike Moore of BC Highway Patrol said.

Moore said the driver, a man in his 50’s from Kelowna, sustained non-life threatening injuries and was transported to hospital by BC Ambulance Service.

Police continue to investigate the cause.

“Driver impairment has not been ruled out as a contributing factor,” Moore stated.

Any witnesses to the crash, or with dash-cam video of the vehicle prior to the incident, can contact Const. Derrick McWilliams of BC Highway Patrol in Golden at 250-344-2221 and refer to file number 2023-1547.
