Boat Show sails back into spring

Apr 27, 2023 | 5:00 AM

A popular event is floating back into the North Okanagan’s social calender this spring.

The Vernon Yacht Club will hold its 2023 Boat and Leisure Show the weekend of May 6 and 7 at their site at 7919 Okanagan Landing Road.

The Yacht Club, which has 499 members, is celebrating its 70th anniversary this year.

Dave Groleau, show coordinator, said club members are excited to hold the event again, the first one since the pandemic.

“After a three year gap, this will be our 30th Boat Show. We are looking forward to a fun two days. The weather looks great and we are expecting to see a lot of people both days,” Groleau told Vernon Matters.

Groleau said the format will be much the same as past years with on-water as well as on-land displays (see list below).

Free parking will be provided at Marshall Fields with free Kal Tire shuttles to the boat show every 10 minutes.

We asked Groleau if the club is planning anything special to commemorate its 70th anniversary.

“We will be showcasing the club with full access to the general public,” Groleau explained.

“There will be a charity regatta June 2-3 as well as a three-club regatta Sept 8-10 involving Penticton, Kelowna, Vernon, with other events in the planning stages.”
