Vipers advance to next round of BCHL playoffs

Apr 9, 2023 | 9:00 PM

The Vernon Vipers have moved into the second round of the B.C. Hockey League playoffs after a convincing 3-0 win over the West Kelowna Warriors in game 6 on Easter Sunday at Kal Tire Place.

The Vipers won the final three games of the series to take down the Warriors three games to two.

The Vipers outshot the Warriors 38-14 as 19-year-old Vancouver product Ethan David posted his second shutout of the series.

The 2,303 fans on hand got on their feet and gave the Vipers a standing ovation as the clock ticked down.

Thomas Tien, Julian Facchinelli and Reagan Milburn twinkled the twine for Vernon who were the sixth seed in the Interior, upsetting the third seeded Warriors.

“I’m really happy with the effort tonight and outstanding job in the series. We’re happy to move on,” Jason McKee, Vipers head coach and GM said on the post game show on Beach Radio. McKee also noted how important it was to get the first goal in the game as his team battled some early nerves.

The Vipers will take on the fourth seeded Salmon Arm Silverbacks in round two likely starting Friday in Salmon Arm.

The Penticton Vees will host the Wenatchee Wild in the other Interior semi final after the Wild upset the second seeded Cranbrook Bucks 4-2 Sunday to take that series in six games.
