Manager leaving Sovereign Lake Nordic Centre

The general manager of the Sovereign Lake Nordic Centre is taking his career on a new trail.

Troy Hudson will be leaving his post at the end of the season after eight years at the helm of the Nordic club.

“During this time, the club has doubled in size, has endured a global pandemic, launched ski and biathlon academy programs, and been awarded the BC Parks Community Partner of the Year Award, the Vernon and District Chamber of Commerce Tourism Excellence Award and Business Leader of the Year Award,” a SLNC newsletter stated.

During Hudson’s tenure, the centre also became the first ski industry Living Wage employer in Canada and has been a strong leadership voice across the Nordic industry.

Hudson thanked the board members, staff and volunteers who have helped shape his leadership skills.

“We have surmounted some challenging times and achieved some extra special feats together. Building a sense of trust, and camaraderie while fostering an environment of collaboration among the staff are really my proudest takeaways,” Hudson said. “We have grown an exceptionally talented team of staff to lead the club forward, and our Board is very dedicated to the long-term sustainability and financial viability of the organization.”

Hudson, who is in the final stages of completing his Level 4 officials certification, says he will miss the role but will continue to support the club as a volunteer.

Hudson is moving to Entabeni Systems, a resort management software and hardware development firm. He will be developing new systems for small to medium-sized alpine resorts, along with for the Nordic, cat ski and heli-ski industries.

He will also be leading the Canadian division of Indy Pass, an alpine and Nordic multi-pass program that is sold globally at over 120 participating resorts and ski areas which includes SLNC, Nickel Plate, Manning Park and Apex Ski Resort.

Hudson said he’s excited about the new challenge.

“This opportunity will allow me to travel to the many international cross-country and alpine resorts that I have always dreamed of visiting. I will miss my team here deeply, but I know that they are all great leaders in their own right. Thank you for the amazing opportunity to steer this ship over the last decade.”

The SLNC board said Hudson’s decision is what’s best for him and his family.

“We wish to acknowledge Troy’s hard work and significant contributions over the last eight years toward making SLNC a world-class Nordic club. On behalf of the membership, staff and the board of directors, we would like to express a warm and heartfelt THANK YOU Troy for a job well done and wish him well in his future endeavours,” the board of directors stated.

The newsletter did not say when the club will begin the process to find a new general manager.
