Flushing success: Plumbing, heating business celebrates milestone

A well-known North Okanagan business is celebrating 130 years of helping residents with their household necessities.

S.P. Seymour Plumbing, Heating and Welding was established in Armstrong in 1893 by Joseph Ross.

It’s been family-owned and operated since then. The current owner is Patrick Seymour, a fifth generation plumber and Joseph Ross’ great great grandson.

A sixth generation is now working and operating Seymour Ltd.

“The business has grown and shrank over the years with the community and kept up with technology,” owner Pat Seymour told Vernon Matters. “It is quite rare to have such a proud legacy. The secret to our longevity is honesty, fairness, quality work, wide range of services and great long term employees.”

The company moved to Vernon and was in several locations all under the S.P. Seymour name and now operates at 4217 25th Avenue.

The business has played an important part in the heritage of Vernon and the surrounding area.

S.P. Seymour did the first indoor plumbing in Armstrong, and completed the mechanical work for such buildings as Vernon Jubilee Hospital, Vernon Central School (Now Ecole Bearisto), the Vernon Courthouse and the original sewage plant.
