ORIGINAL:

Everything Everywhere All at Once won seven awards at Sunday night’s 95th Academy Awards, but locally it was the North Okanagan Hospice Society that benefited from a live stream of the Oscar’s at Vernon’s Towne Theatre.

Over 150 people showed up to the event sponsored by the Okanagan Screen Arts Society, including Kelowna mayor Tom Dyas and Coldstream mayor Ruth Hoyte.

Patrons walked the red carpet, had a professional photo taken, were treated to a glass of wine from Oliver’s Road 13 Winery and were entertained by Beach Radio host Jason Armstrong.

Uprooted Kitchen and Catering was on site with charcuterie boxes.

Armstrong handed out replica Oscar statues and Intermezzo gift cards to attendees who answered Oscar trivia or recited a famous line from a previous award-winning movie.

Five lucky individuals won dinner and a movie courtesy of The Italian Kitchen and The Towne Theatre, and one person took home a $200 gourmet basket from Orchard Valley Retirement.

The event is sponsored by Acera-Capri CMW Insurance, Beach Radio 107.5, Cypress Funeral and Cremation, Dominion Lending Centre-White House Mortgages, Lake City Casino, Okanagan Restoration, Orchard Valley Retirement Residence, Road 13 Winery, Southward Medical Supply, TD Benefits, The Towne Theatre, The Italian Kitchen Company and Wayside Press.

Okanagan Restoration Services owners Kelly and Terry Moorhouse won the 50/50 draw and donated it back to NOHS.

Scotia Bank will also contribute through its matching gifts and volunteers program.

A final fundraising tally hasn’t been released.
