The Armstrong Spallumcheen Hospital Auxillary (ASHA) kicked off the giving season with $150,604 in donations to dozens of North Okanagan-Shuswap charities and foundations connected to health and wellness.

There auxillary has 60 volunteers who put in over 20,000 hours time in 2021.

“I think we will get close to that this year, so I would like to thank the volunteers, we also thank all our donors, Armstrong and District and as far as Kamloops are incredibly generous,” ASHA President Carolyn Farris said. “We also want to say thank you to all of our customers, we have an incredible variety of people that do thrift shopping from those that just like to thrift shop to those who really need the lower prices, so we provide a service.”

The Vernon Jubilee Hospital Foundation received the lions share of the funds including a $25,000 donation to the CT Scanner Project, funds for PV Manor, Pleasant Valley Health Centre and Vision Clinic and Parkview Place-Granville Daycare for total gift of $70,640.

The Shuswap Hospital Foundation received $18,000 toward a pulmonary function machine for Shuswap Lake General.

North Okanagan Hospice Society was awarded $10,000 toward a patient lift.

The North Okanagan Community Dental Access Society received $5,000.

The Medical Equipment Loan Cupboard Society gets $2,000.

Food security was also noted as important for health and wellness. The Armstrong/Spallumcheen Food Bank was awarded $15,000, Enderby Food Bank $10,000, North Okanagan Good Food Box $2,000 and the Glad Tidings Brown Bag Lunch Program $2,000.
