Donuts for dollars: Coffee shop steps up for NONA

Nov 24, 2022 | 1:30 PM

A Vernon business is providing a tasty way for its customers to help-out an organization that helps children with developmental disabilities.

The North Okanagan Neurological Association has announced that Ratio Coffee and Pastry is supporting its child development centre in a special way this holiday season.

Ratio is pleased to team up with NONA for the Lights for Kids fundraiser,” Andrew McWilliam, Ratio owner, said. “Our team of talented pastry chefs will be creating a unique NONA-themed donut that will be available every Donut Friday during December with $1 from each donut going towards the fundraiser. We hope you come enjoy one (or a few) during the month of December.”

The partnership with Ratio will complement NONA’s Lights for Kids Campaign with John Christmas Light Tour which starts Dec. 5 and runs until Dec. 31. The tour map will be released by the local realtor in early December.

During that time, participants can view the tour map on the website of John Christmas and drive past the most notable light displays in Vernon, perhaps while munching on a NONA donut from Ratio.

“We are thrilled to partner with Ratio Coffee and the creation of a special NONA donut. I can’t wait to see what scrumptious donut they come up with. Thank you Ratio for supporting our Christmas Lights fundraiser,” Gina Watson, event coordinator, said.

From Dec. 5 to 31, the NONA downtown buildings will be lit up for Christmas.

The community can view the lights and decor, designed by local artist and long-time NONA supporter, Nancy Wilde, every day from 5 p.m. to 9 p.m.

NONA will also be collecting donations on Saturday, Dec. 17 between 5 p.m. and 8 p.m. at its drive-through event where families can meet Santa and his helpers who will give out toys to kids.

The services provided at NONA include speech therapy, infant development, autism services and many more. Every year over 800 children and families receive services from the association.
