Trial set for arson suspect

A trial date has been set for a man charged in connection with a fire that destroyed a Coldstream house earlier this year.

Matthew Eric Mason, born in 1983, is accused of arson in relation to inhabited property and breach of a release order.

Following court proceedings this week, a pre-trial conference for Mason has been scheduled for April 19, 2023 and a trial in provincial court will be held May 24-26, 2023.

A fire at a residence on Hawthorne Place in Coldstream on the night of Jan. 14, 2022 left a home a total loss, with no injuries.

Investigators ruled the cause as suspicious and later that night, Mason was arrested and later charged with the arson offence.
