Police arrest wanted man after three-hour standoff

The RCMP’s Emergency Response Team was seen rushing through Vernon this morning on their way to an emergency incident in Salmon Arm.

Earlier in the day, an officer on patrol in Salmon Arm spotted a man known to have multiple arrest warrants on the Trans Canada Highway near 30th St NE and 9th Ave NE.

The man fled from the scene, but thanks to information from the public, officers learned the suspect was hiding in a residence on 8th Ave NE.

The home was surrounded and the South East District Emergency Response Team attended to make entry into the residence, if needed.

“After approximately three hours, the male exited the residence and surrendered to police without incident. The male was taken into custody for a number of arrest warrants from the North Okanagan and Salmon Arm detachments,” said Staff Sgt. Scott West.

One of the warrants involved a robbery in Ranchero where a shotgun was discharged at a victim.

The other warrants included break and enter, assault with a weapon and flight from police.

RCMP say Ryan Charron, 32, is in police custody awaiting a bail hearing.
