The Vernon Health Area is reporting a decline in COVID-19 cases after seeing cases rise in early August.

The latest report from the B.C. Centre for Disease Control (BCCDC) stated there were eight cases of the virus confirmed in the Vernon area between August 14 and 20, while there were 152 cases in Interior Health and 737 in all of B.C.

Those figures are down from the previous reporting week when there were 12 cases in the Vernon area, 182 in the Interior and 878 in the entire province.

The BCCDC data also shows declines in COVID-19 hospitalizations and deaths regionally and provincially.

The latest report shows there were 180 British Columbians admitted to hospital with the virus in the latest week, with 26 of those hospitalizations occurring in the Interior.

Those are down from the previous week when there were 231 hospital admissions across the province and 43 in the Interior.

The BCCDC noted there were 41 British Columbians admitted to intensive care units with the virus, up from 32 the week before. In the Interior, there were seven ICU admissions, which was the same figure reported in the previous week.

Additionally, the centre reports there were 33 deaths linked to COVID-19 in all of B.C., with seven coming from the Interior, between August 14 and 20.

Those figures are down from the prior week when there were 43 deaths in B.C., including 11 from the Interior.

To date, there have been 381,788 cases of COVID-19 confirmed in B.C., including 67,914 in the Interior. 5,629 of which were from the Vernon Health Area.

A total of 4,097 British Columbians have died due to the virus, 591 of whom were from the Interior.

The BCCDC did not provide COVID-19 hospitalization or death data for individual health areas.
