Name change for Vernon liquor store

Vernon’s largest privately-owned liquor store got a new owner earlier this year, and now it has a new name.

Monashees Liquor Store on 30th Street has been rebranded as Angry Otter Liquor @ Monashees, as part of being purchased by Otter Co-op in February of this year.

Otter Co-op is based out of Langley and owns a number of liquor stores in B.C.’s Fraser Valley, the Okanagan, and four locations in Kamloops.

Otter Co-op CEO Jack Nicholson told Vernon Matters earlier this year, that they were welcoming the current staff members to Otter, and wanted to include “Monashee” in the name.

As part of being a co-operative, store customers can become a member for a one-time fee of $10 and earn cash and equity at other Otter Co-op and Angry Otter locations.

Monashees Liquor Store opened in Vernon in May 2017, and according to its website, it is the largest privately-owned liquor store in the province.

Vernon Matters has reached out to Angry Otter Liquor management to find out if there are any other changes at the former Monashees location in Vernon.
