The free event to mark the Armstrong Regional Co-Op’s 100th anniversary was originally scheduled to be held on August 11 at the Marine Peace Park in Salmon Arm, but the screening was pushed back due to poor weather conditions.

“So we were able to postpone the movie until today, Monday, August 22, but unfortunately, looking at the weather forecast for Salmon Arm it looks like there’s a potential of thunderstorms that are supposed to be rolling in around 6 or 7 o’clock,” Jason Keis, the marketing and sales manager for the Armstrong Regional Co-Op told Vernon Matters.

“So we have made the decision that it is probably better to keep people safe than to try and go forward with this.”

The free movie event would have required setting up a 20-foot inflatable screen and projector to show the movie, both of which would not be suitable to use in a storm.

“We’re certainly disappointed, but there’s nothing we can do about the weather. With the screen and the system of this type, it’s completely 100 per cent dependent on getting good weather and we just haven’t had the luck.”

Unlike the previous postponement, the event is being officially cancelled for Salmon Arm.

“Unfortunately we’re getting too close to the end of summer and there’s just no available dates for us to try and reschedule it at this time,” said Keis, adding that the IPE and Salmon Arm Fall Fair are going to take up a lot of available space in the coming weeks.

Keis noted that the Armstrong Regional Co-Op may try to organize something else in Salmon Arm to mark the 100 years of operation, but as of time of publication they have no plans in the works outside the annual Fuel Good Day and Co-Op Week events.
