Residents reminded: NO OPEN BURNING

Aug 19, 2022 | 6:00 AM

BX-Swan Lake fire fighters were dispatched to a Reimer Road property late Thursday afternoon, to an open burning complaint.

“There was a verbal confrontation between two individuals over the burn, and our department was called,” Chief Bill Wacey told Vernon Matters. “The individual involved was very sheepish and admitted he should have known better.”

The individual was explained the regulations , the fine system and ultimately given a written warning which stays on file.

“Fines start at $500 and up, are there are still three weeks or more of potential fire risk.

“All it takes is a small ember or spark to land in the wrong place and disaster could strike,” Wacey added.

There is currently no open burning or campfires allowed in Vernon or the Regional District of North Okanagan.
