Environment Canada has lifted a heat warning for most of the Okanagan, including Vernon and Kelowna.

The warning was rescinded for North and Central Okanagan at 9:38 a.m. Friday.

The lifting of the order coincides with a 30 per cent chance of showers and risk of thunderstorms for the area Friday afternoon, as well as a daytime high of 33 Celsius and an overnight low of 18 C for Vernon.

The heat warning remains in place for the South Okanagan, including Penticton and the Fraser Canyon.

The weather agency said the mercury is expected to reach a high of 35 C in those areas, with an overnight low of 18 C Friday night.

Environment Canada advised people to stay cool, drink plenty of fluids, avoid strenuous activities in the heat, and monitor those who are most at risk such as young children, people with preexisting health conditions and the elderly.
