Winter Carnival gets funding to help seniors
Vernon Winter Carnival is launching a program to help local seniors get over their social isolation caused by the COVID-19 pandemic.
The carnival society has received a grant of $22,500 from the federal government’s New Horizons for Seniors Program to be used to engage seniors in the community through the annual winter festival.
“As part of the project, Vernon Winter Carnival (VWC) will be creating a series of videos, engaging local residents to tell their stories of past Vernon Winter Carnivals, allowing the society to share knowledge and past experiences to future generations,” said Vicki Proulx, carnival’s executive director.
The funding will also allow VWC to create a seniors event during the 2023 festival, along with other opportunities to ensure local seniors can be a part of community events.
