Update: It doesn’t appear a small fire burning in Kalamalka Lake Provincial Park in the Cousens Bay area will impact this week-ends paddleboard event. The organizers have not been notified of any hold on the event from the B.C. Wildfire Service. Friday night and Saturday’s events are all in and near Kalamalka Beach. The Sunday race starts in Oyama and racers head North along the highway side of the lake.

Original: The 11 th annual Kalamalka Classic Paddleboard Festival is scheduled for this weekend.

The Kal Classic, which is the largest Paddleboard festival in Canada, will see a sprint paddle event on Friday, Aug. 19; the 4.5 kilometre Eagle Run Stand Up Paddle (SUP) Challenge, a new Inflatable SUP Scramble, and the KeikiHolo kids event on Saturday, Aug. 20.

Sunday, Aug. 21, will see the marquee event, the Kalamalka Crossing, where paddleboarders travel the full 18 km across the lake for Oyama to Kalamalka Beach. The finishing times for the crossings will range from 1:30 p.m. to 3:30 p.m.

The Kal Classic will see over $7,000 in cash and prizes handed out to participants.

Partial proceeds from the event will be donated to organizations dedicated to protecting Kalamalka Lake from the threat of invasive Zebra and Quagga Mussels.
