Teen facing four counts after taxi-jacking, crash

Aug 9, 2022 | 2:55 PM

Kamloops RCMP say a local man has been charged after a Friday (Aug. 5) carjacking that led to a taxi cab landing on its roof.

Before 3:00 p.m. on Friday, RCMP were called to a carjacking on Fortune Drive. The suspect allegedly threatened the taxi driver with a weapon before taking the cab.

When officers located the suspect and tried to conduct a traffic stop, the cab sped away, hitting two other vehicles and landing upside down. The suspect ran off before he was arrested nearby with the help of the Police Dog Service Unit.

Detachment spokesperson Cpl. Crystal Evelyn says the suspect has been remanded in custody until his next court appearance Thursday (Aug. 11).

Bradley James Venn, 19, of Kamloops is facing charges of robbery, failing to stop for police, dangerous driving and failing to remain at the scene of a collision.

Anyone with further information or dashcam video related to the robbery is asked to contact Kamloops RCMP at (250) 828-3000 and refer to file number 2022-27242.
