The Caetani Summer Music Festival is set to go Saturday, July 23, at the heritage site in Vernon’s East Hill neighbourhood.

The concerts will be headlined by Shred Kelly, a folk rock band from Fernie, B.C.

The festival will also see performances from the Okanagan’s Duane Marchand; Blu and Kelly Hopkins, winners of two B.C. Interior Music Awards; singer, songwriter, recording artist and actor Betty Anne Northup; celtic folk rock band Cod Gone Wild; and female country tribute act, Songs of the Southern Belles.

The event begins at 1 p.m. and the final performance will end at 9:30 p.m.

The annual concert, which was paused during COVID-19, is usually held in August, but with the return last year happening at the same time as the White Rock Lake wildfire, it was decided that the event should be moved up.

“We decided to do it earlier in July, just in case, because last year we held it in August and it was very smokey in this town,” Kristin Froneman, tours and communication communicator for the Caetani Centre, told Vernon Matters.

So we decided to have the festival a little earlier.”

The event, which will also see food vendors set up, and sales of both alcoholic and non-alcoholic beverages, will cost the Caetani Centre about $15,000 to run, which includes paying the musicians, purchasing the drinks and renting the tents.

Froneman noted they do have a good amount of volunteers to assist with the event for which she is very grateful.

The Caetani Centre received a $7,000 Community Gaming Grant from the province to help pay for the artists.

Froneman said they hope to sell enough tickets to break even, though she added any profits made from the concert will go back to do some critical work on the heritage house’s property.

“We’re looking at restoring our gardens,” said Froneman.

“The Caetani property is one of the oldest properties in Vernon. It’s a large property at 1.3 acres, and this place is all non-profit, and so it’s volunteers who have been basically getting our gardens looking as best as they can, but we’ve had some wear and tear on the gardens. The heat wave really hurt them.”

Froneman added that they also have plans to do some major landscaping work on the back lawn in the future, but extra money may be put aside to support general maintenance projects around the 125-year-old heritage house.

Tickets are available online or at 250-549-SHOW (7469). Tickets will also be sold at the gate for the same price as the advance tickets.

Froneman said that, as of 11:30 a.m. Friday, they had sold about 100 tickets, and hoped to sell at least another 150.

The parking lot won’t be available for the festival, but Froneman told Vernon Matters that an “e-scooter village” parking lot will be set up, adding the Caetani Centre has partnered with Neuron Mobility in order to have a safety spokesperson at the site helping people learn how to operate and safely ride the e-scooters.
