The District of Coldstream’s newest public facility is almost ready to open.

Coldstream Station is located on Kalamalka Road, just south of the Alpine Centre.

It will provide parking, washrooms and other amenities for people using the Okanagan Rail Trail which is located just blocks away.

Trevor Seibel, chief administrative officer for the District, says the project is moving along nicely after starting construction in March.

“We are hoping for an opening on the August long weekend, but will know more [this] week. We don’t want to open it too soon if it will create issues finishing the project,” Seibel told Vernon Matters.

Like most projects in the area, we have experienced some supply chain issues that have slowed things down a bit,” he added.

Construction of a new Sun Country Cycle store south of the parking lot is also underway.

“The building to the south will be a two-story, approximately 5,300 square foot retail space that will have sales, rentals and services available of bikes, e-bikes as well as some winter outdoor activities,” Seibel explained.

The building contract for Coldstream Station, valued at $1.6 million, was awarded to TKI Construction of Kelowna.

The project is being funded by a provincial grant of $624,257 with the rest from the Community Works (Gas Tax) Fund.
